New England Fine Living
Buttermilk Falls Inn & Spa is a beautiful, peaceful getaway spot on 70 acres of cliffs overlooking the Hudson River. It’s truly eco-friendly, not just a marketing term. There’s a new, $3 million spa built with latest geothermal and solar technologies. The spa uses the power of the earth and the sun to heat the sauna, steam room and unique mineral saltwater pool. In the winter, electricity attained from solar energy is used to extract heat from below the earth’s surface to heat the building. In the summer, the heat is transferred from inside the building back into the ground and the cool air is cycled back into the building. This works because ground temperatures remain a constant 55 degrees 10 feet below the earth’s surface and heat travels much more efficiently through the ground than through the air.
The Inn also has an extensive garden which produces some of the food served to guests, as well as bees that produce honey and chickens that provide eggs. There are beautiful hiking sites, the Culinary Institute of America and much more here in the Hudson Valley. The property has many other interesting features, including a 120 foot waterfall down to the Hudson River, stunning guest rooms, Culinary Institute of America trained chefs, as well as interesting animals such as peacocks and llamas. They have chickens that lay eggs each day for guests, as well as bees for honey and an extensive garden for fresh veggies. - - New England Fine Living Review
National Geographic Traveler
Congratulations! Your property has been selected by the editors of National Geographic Traveler magazine to be featured in its first-ever, annual "Stay List."
The list debuts in the April 2008 issue of National Geographic Traveler and includes 150 properties in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean.
"It's thrilling to see how many folks in the accommodations business truly care about offering guests a sense-of-place experience," says Traveler Senior Editor Sheila Feldman Buckmaster.
"The hotels and inns that made it onto the list give back to the community, work to conserve and sustain, and — day in and day out — celebrate the very best that their destinations have to offer."

The Spa: Brand-spanking-new, this modernist spa on the banks of the Hudson River has angled rooflines that contrast sharply with the historic clapboard inn that dates to the American Revolution. Light pours into the elegantly designed spa through a galvanized copper “volcano” that juts out the top. It’s small at six treatment rooms but has the region’s only thalassotherapy pool, which uses healthful salt water (and as little chlorine as New York state will allow). Do laps in the 35-foot-long pool or just lounge and enjoy the views out a great wall of windows. - - Westchester Magazine
